As summer approaches, the green fingered amongst us will take to our gardens to begin pruning, planting, digging and deadheading. Once you’ve finished a day of labour, we think it’s important to sit back, relax and smell the roses! With that in mind, here is our Summer Garden Styling Guide, helping you to transform your back garden into an oasis!
In the height of summer, sunlight can sometimes be overwhelming in the garden. It’s wise to consider introducing areas of shade to make the most of your garden throughout the day rather than having to wait until the evenings. If you’ve moved into a new build home, it’s unlikely you’ll have the shade of trees. While planting trees are probably the best way to create shade, it is expensive and will take some forward planning. For instant shade we recommend investing in an awning or a pergola.
Assuming that the weather is on our side, lighting will allow your afternoons to turn into evenings in a garden. As well as providing illumination, lighting is a wonderful way to create mood and atmosphere. LED spotlights are brilliant at up-lighting trees or architectural plants, instantly creating drama. For something more whimsical, use string festoon lights or place lanterns and candles in jam jars for a touch of romance.
There’s something quite lovely about a family meal al fresco or enjoying a gin and tonic on the patio with friends. Homeware stores are increasingly stocking a range of gorgeous outdoor furnishings. However, you don’t need to break the bank to create a stylish look – the key to outdoor styling is relaxed and informal so focus on accessories that are simple, rustic and durable.
