Set within a limestone ravine, Dovedale provides a stunning backdrop for country walks. Hop over the stepping stones that cross the River Dove and explore the beautiful woodlands and wild flowers with a picnic!
If you have a head for heights then you’ll love ascending the Derwent Valley by cable cart to reach The Heights of Abraham. It’s well worth the trip as waiting at the top you’ll be greeted with incredible views, a play area for the kids and a restaurant or tavern to calm your nerves with a swift half!
The Crich Tramway Village is home to the National Tramway Museum showcasing over 60 trams built between 1873 and 1982. You can then step back in time and explore life in the past within the historic living village, complete with sweet shop, tea rooms and pub! It’s also dog friendly!
Derbyshire is a hotspot for National Trust sites, playing host to some of the most impressive houses in the country.
Kedleston Hall is a spectacular 18th century hall, lovingly restored to its former glory, allowing you to catch a glimpse of the elegant interiors and parkland designed by Robert Adams.
Another incredible property is Hardwick Hall, home of Bess of Hardwick where there are ‘more windows than wall’! You can even take advantage of rooftop tours offering rarely seen views across the countryside.
Calke Abbey is the National Trust’s famous ‘un-stately Home’ that has been left unrestored since it was taken over by the trust. As well as the fascinating house, the estate features fantastic grounds for beautiful country walks.
Finally, Sudbury Hall is a great day out for all the family; complete with the National Trust Museum of Childhood where you don’t have to be young, just young at heart to enjoy a great time!
Known as the ‘Palace of the Peaks’, Chatsworth House is a sight to behold! Set in the breath taking landscape, the imposing house is an impressive example of English baroque architecture. There are tours of the house throughout the year as well as a range of special events, such as the Chatsworth International Horse Trials and The RHS Chatsworth Flower Show.
Chatsworth also features a farmyard and play area allowing children to let off some steam. Be sure to check out the restaurants, gift shops and farm shop featuring the most incredible scotch eggs!
The Blue John Cavern in Castleton is world famous. Home to eight of the fourteen known varieties of Blue John stone, it offers guided tours through the fascinating cave system allowing visitors to see stalagmites and stalactites as well as the waterfall cavern and multi-coloured dome.
Best known for tart and pudding, Bakewell is a town famous for the delicious treats. Once you’ve gorged yourself on the local delicacy, take a stroll through the town to explore the historic streets and quaint courtyards featured in paintings and photography from years gone by.
