Lighting is absolutely essential within a home. It is an incredibly important aspect of your interior design and can completely transform the look and feel of any space.
At Meadowview Homes, we recognise that the best quality light is natural and so are mindful of this in terms of our design choices. By incorporating large windows and considering interior layouts we ensure our homes maximise natural light throughout the day.
If general lighting is primarily about functionality, ambient lighting is there to provide atmosphere. Our homes feature spotlights and pendants on dimmers that allow you to adjust light levels throughout the evening. This means when you’re relaxing with a film and a glass of wine you can avoid the glare of a fully lit room. This can also be achieved with a simple table lamp with a warm coloured bulb.
As the name suggests, task lighting is used for a specific purpose. Think about the particular things you do in each room at home that require a stronger, brighter light source. Meadowview kitchens, for example, feature under counter spotlights that make food preparation easier and safer. You also might want to think about a decent desk lamp for a study or a flexible, directional reading light next to a bed for bedtime reading!
Just as important to a room’s look as general lighting and ambient lighting is mood lighting. Typical mood lights include table lamps at eye level so it’s important to shade glare with a lampshade. You won’t be using mood lighting to chop vegetables so you can afford to select a bulb with a lower wattage. On the subject of bulbs, choose a colour and temperature that matches your interior design scheme, for example a darker shade will be best if you’re opting for a moody, atmospheric look. When selecting a lamp, it goes without saying that the base and shade should complement your overall scheme.
The final aspect of lighting your home is accent lighting. Do you have an interesting architectural feature such as a bookcase or a piece of artwork that would look great under the spotlight? Accent lighting can be used to highlight those features and make them a central part of a room.
